Baldock Charter Market and ‘Lockdown’
On Saturday 21 March, the UK entered into Coronavirus Lockdown and the government issued the first of many guidelines aimed at reducing the spread of this disease and protecting the health of the population.
Our Charter Market, held every Wednesday, has been trading for over 300 years, but we closed the market initially, in accord with government guidelines. As things became more stabilised and government advice clearer, we decided on a partial reopening of the market, adhering to recognised guidelines and incorporating social distancing.
The first stall to open was Loni’s Fish stall, as he provided an essential service. Loni has been with us for many years and continued to cater for his established customers, also gaining new ones from people who now were working from home.
A couple of weeks ago, the government set out the terms under which Garden Centres were allowed to reopen; this prompted the Flower Stall to return to Baldock, again, making sure that social distancing was adhered to.
Next week Bentleys Fresh Produce, fruit and vegetable stall will return to Baldock, further enhancing the choice of local providers in the town.
Throughout this phased reopening, we are careful to ensure social distancing and hope that all customers will respect the ‘Two Metre Rule’.
Stay safe!
